On October 7, 2013, Jehovah’s Witnesses released a mobile device app for Bible reading and study called JW Library. This free Bible app features six English translations of the Bible, including the King James Version and the 2013 revision of the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures. a

Millions of people rely on smartphones, tablets, or similar devices for work and communication. Since mobile device users could already find resources for Bible reading and study on jw.org, why was JW Library produced?

First, the app does not require an Internet connection once it has been installed, so it can be used off-line. Second, it was specially designed to help the reader look up scriptures easily and study the Bible more thoroughly. How so?

When JW Library opens for the first time, it displays Bible book names. When a Bible book is selected, the next screen shows a list of the chapters in the selected book. This makes it possible to locate a particular verse or passage in the chapter in seconds. The app provides several other features for Bible study:

• Footnotes that show alternative renderings and other background information

• Cross references to related Bible verses

• A search feature that can take a user to all occurrences of a word or phrase
